The purpose of this Fund shall be to support efforts in Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland to establish, maintain, and operate a museum and visitor center to house artifacts and information about the Taneytown Area and its people, past and present.
The museum will provide for the care of historical artifacts to ensure that these pieces are available to future generations. It will collect artifacts, both hard and ephemeral, photographs, oral traditions and any other item that serves as a window into the Taneytown community’s past. The Museum will encourage people of all ages, at no charge, to learn and care about from whence their community came, who its’ leaders were and what its’ day-to-day life was. The Museum will act in conjunction with the Heritage Committee, the City Council and Administration to ensure that Taneytown’s history remains a part of Taneytown’s present.
The Center will also provide information and literature to private and business people, to local persons and those from out-of-town, about the local businesses and organizations, and about sites to see in the region. The Visitor Center provides the ‘front office’ for the Taneytown Area Museum.
The Center will also provide a location from which the Taneytown Chamber of Commerce will strengthen the economic well being of the Community, to support the free enterprise system while preserving and enhancing the quality of the business environment as a best-in-class organization, and to promote education among our members and member businesses, thus benefiting the entire community.
